In 1986 I bought my first copy of Marvel Team-Up, issue number 145. I bought it from my friend (thank you, Joshua Huey) for 50 cents, five issues later it was canceled. This single comic book is responsible for the piles of comics that liter my room today. The hundred or so MTU issues I have aren't worth much, but they certainly are my favorite.

Marvel Team-Up had a quality not found in most of today's comics, nearly every issue had a self-contained story. Even if you had missed a couple of months, you could pick up any story in a minute. A long running subplot was three issues long in MTU (unlike today's comics with multiple issue/title cross-overs, and Wolverine's long lost step-cousin secretly revealed in some shadow of a corner panel in an issue 20 years ago, returned for revenge, or crap like that). Marvel Team-Up didn't dwell a lot on past events and therefore was the perfect title to introduce a comic novice to the Marvel Universe. If all that wasn't reason enough to love this title, every month MTU featured everyone's favorite wall-crawler, and a different super hero teamed up to thwart the plans of many of Marvel's cavalcade of evil-doers.
